This project was designed to provide an education and training facility combined with administration offices. It is on the site of Holy Cross Hospital in Haslemere. The Hospital provides in-patient services for 40 long-stay patients who have severe and complex neurological disabilities.

The detail

The building is on a sloping site and has been designed to provide level access to the existing hospital at both ground and first floor, thereby negating the expense of seperate lift access. The ground floor of the building is set-up for training with a large teaching area that can be divided into two smaller rooms using a sliding folding acoustic partition.

The ground floor also consists of a kitchen servery area, wcs and store for training equipment. This makes it a self contained facility, freeing up valuable space in the main hospital building that was previously used for this purpose.

On the first floor is an open plan office, creating one shared space for the team of support service staff.

The building was opened by HRH Princess Alexandra and received a Commendation in the Education Building category at the Waverley Design Awards.
